Japan Producer Prices Log Record Increase in 2021

Tokyo, Jan. 14 (Jiji Press)--Japanese producer prices for 2021 rose 4.8 pct from the previous year on higher commodity prices, marking the biggest increase on record, the Bank of Japan said Friday.
The producer price index stood at 105.1 against 100 for the base year of 2015. The growth was biggest since the 1981 start of comparable data.
For December alone, the index rose 8.5 pct from a year earlier to 108.7, up for the 10th straight month.
The pace of growth slowed from the record 9.2 pct marked in November, but the index stayed at a very high level.
Natural resources prices rose on economic recovery in and outside Japan, pushing up the producer prices.
