U.S. Pres. Biden Arrives in Japan

Tokyo, May 22 (Jiji Press)--U.S. President Joe Biden arrived in Japan on Sunday afternoon, his first trip to the Asian country as president.
The president flew to the U.S. military's Yokota base in western Tokyo aboard Air Force One.
On Monday, Biden will hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The prime minister is expected to tell the president that Japan plans to boost its defense expenditures in response to the increasingly severe security environment in East Asia. The two leaders are likely to affirm the importance of extended deterrence backed by the U.S. nuclear umbrella and agree on the strengthening of the Japan-U.S. alliance.
On Tuesday, a summit of the Quad countries of Japan, the United States, Australia and India will be held in the Japanese capital.
