Japan Producer Prices Up 9.1 Pct in May

Tokyo, June 10 (Jiji Press)--Producer prices in Japan in May jumped 9.1 pct from a year before, reflecting soaring resources prices, the Bank of Japan said in a preliminary report Friday.
The producer price index, which measures costs of goods traded between businesses, came to 112.8 against the 2020 base of 100, the central bank said.
The result compared with a median forecast of a 9.8 pct rise in a Jiji Press survey of 16 private think tanks.
Starting with the May report, the BOJ adopted new standards using 2020, instead of 2015, as the base year for the producer price index.
