(Update) Japan Govt Gives Administrative Guidance to KDDI

Tokyo, Aug. 3 (Jiji Press)--Japan's communications ministry on Wednesday slapped telecom company KDDI Corp. <9433> with administrative guidance over a major network disruption that lasted several days in early July.
The ministry took similar action against Okinawa Cellular Telephone Co., a KDDI subsidiary based in the southernmost Japan prefecture of Okinawa, the same day.
Recognizing the disruption as a serious incident under the telecommunications business law, the ministry gave the two companies strong reprimands over the incident, urging them to make thorough preparations when performing maintenance for the facility that became the cause of the latest problem and to improve the ways they inform users of service disruptions.
The ministry told the two companies to submit by Nov. 10 reports on responses taken by the end of October.
KDDI President Makoto Takahashi visited the communications ministry on Wednesday and received a document on the administrative guidance from communications minister Yasushi Kaneko.
