Japan Conducts Yen-Buying Intervention for 1st Time in 24 Yrs

   Tokyo, Sept. 22 (Jiji Press)--Japan has intervened in the foreign exchange market to halt the yen's fall against the dollar, Masato Kanda, Japan's vice finance minister for international affairs, revealed Thursday.
   "We have taken decisive action just now," Kanda told reporters.
   It is the first time in 24 years for the Japanese government and the Bank of Japan to engage in a yen-buying intervention.
