56 Pct Back Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage in Japan: Jiji Poll

   Tokyo, March 16 (Jiji Press)--A Jiji Press poll showed Thursday that 56.7 pct of respondents are in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage in Japan.
   The number more than triple the 18.3 pct who opposed the idea, according to the March survey. Respondents who answered neither or said they have no opinion totaled 25.0 pct.
   Among respondents backing the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, 44.8 pct were supportive, 28.7 pct were opposed, and 26.5 pct answered neither or had no opinion.
   The survey also showed that 50.8 pct of all respondents believe that a bill to promote public understanding of sexual minorities should be enacted during the current session of the Diet, the country's parliament, against 16.9 pct who do not think so.
   Among LDP supporters, the proportions stood at 46.6 pct and 21.1 pct, respectively.
