Japan Logs Current Account Surplus of 2.7 T. Yen in July

Tokyo, Sept. 8 (Jiji Press)--Japan logged a current account surplus of 2,771.7 billion yen in July, up 3.1-fold from a year before, the Ministry of Finance said Friday.
The country posted a current account surplus for the sixth straight month, with the July figure reaching the highest level for the month since the start of comparable data in 1985.
In goods trade, Japan logged a surplus of 68.2 billion yen against the year-before deficit of 1,184.3 billion yen, the ministry said in a preliminary balance of payments report.
Exports edged down 0.6 pct to 8,555.8 billion yen. Imports plunged 13.3 pct to 8,487.6 billion yen, reflecting a halt in price increases for coal, crude oil and liquefied natural gas.
In services trade, Japan's deficit shrank 34.2 pct to 535.5 billion yen as the travel account logged a surplus of 336.8 billion yen, highest since 1996, to which the comparable data can date back.
