(Update) Kishida Launches New Cabinet, Picking Many New Faces

Tokyo, Sept. 13 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida launched his new cabinet Wednesday, retaining key members to pursue political stability while appointing many first-time ministers to create a sense of freshness.
Five women were named to the revamped cabinet, matching the highest figure. They include former Justice Minister Yoko Kamikawa, 70, who was appointed foreign minister, and Ayuko Kato, 44, who was named minister for policies related to children.
Kishida retained Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, 61, Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki, 70, and Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Minister Tetsuo Saito, 71, in their respective posts.
All ministers, excluding Saito, are members of Kishida's ruling Liberal Democratic Party. Saito is a member of Komeito, the junior coalition partner of the LDP.
Of the 19 ministers, Kishida named 11 newcomers, including Defense Minister Minoru Kihara, 54, and Health, Labor and Welfare Minister Keizo Takemi, 71.
