(Update) Kishida to Call for Nuke Disarmament at U.N.

Tokyo, Sept. 15 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is expected to reiterate his call for a world without nuclear weapons during his general debate speech before the U.N. General Assembly next week.
Kishida, who will leave Japan for New York on Tuesday, is also seen proposing reform of the U.N. Security Council, which has remained unable to fulfill its functions since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, a permanent council member.
During the visit, Kishida will also attend a Security Council meeting of national leader-class officials on the situation in Ukraine and host an event on the Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty to be attended by high-level officials.
He aims to build momentum for nuclear disarmament based on the Hiroshima Vision, which calls for making nuclear force data more transparent. The vision was adopted at the summit of the Group of Seven major democracies Kishida chaired in the western Japan city of Hiroshima in May.
He will also take part in a meeting on global health in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and an event on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
