Japan Core Machinery Orders Up for 1st Time in 3 Months in Sept.

Tokyo, Nov. 16 (Jiji Press)--Japan's seasonally adjusted core machinery orders in September rose 1.4 pct from the previous month, up for the first time in three months, reflecting brisk demand for electronic computers among nonmanufacturers, the Cabinet Office said Thursday.
Private-sector orders excluding those for ships and power equipment, closely watched as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending, totaled 852.9 billion yen.
The Cabinet Office said that machinery orders appear to be at a standstill, adopting this basic assessment for the 11th consecutive month.
Of the core private-sector orders, those from manufacturers declined 1.8 pct to 408.2 billion yen. Of orders for general-purpose and production machines, those for transporting machines fell following the previous month's climb. Orders for chemical machines in the chemical industry were also sluggish.
Orders from nonmanufacturers grew 5.7 pct to 444.8 billion yen. While orders for electronic computers and other machines rose from telecommunications companies and firms in the finance and insurance sector, machinery orders decreased from wholesalers and retailers.
