Japan Industrial Output Continues to Fall

Tokyo, March 29 (Jiji Press)--Japan's industrial output in February fell 0.1 pct from the previous month, down for the second straight month, the government said Friday.
The result, far weaker than the median estimate of a 1.3 pct rise in a Jiji Press poll of 18 economic research institutes, is attributed to a prolonged impact of automakers' plant suspensions in response to vehicle testing scandals at Daihatsu Motor Co. and Toyota Industries Corp.
The seasonally adjusted production index for the manufacturing and mining sectors stood at 97.9 against the 2020 base of 100, the industry ministry said in a preliminary report.
The ministry maintained its view on industrial production, saying it has weakened while fluctuating indecisively.
Production declined in seven of the 15 surveyed industries.
