G-7 to Reaffirm Unity against Russia at Summit in Italy

   Tokyo, June 8 (Jiji Press)--The leaders from the Group of Seven major powers will reaffirm their unity against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine at their three-day summit in Italy from Thursday.
   The leaders are slated to issue a joint statement after discussing the Middle East situation, including the fighting between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas, immigration measures and regulations on generative artificial intelligence technology.
   At the summit in Puglia, southern Italy, the G-7 leaders including Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and U.S. President Joe Biden are expected to confirm their policy of continuing sanctions against Russia.
   Some G-7 countries, such as the United States and France, have expressed their tolerance of the use of their weapons provided to Ukraine to strike inside Russia.
   The leaders will discuss ways to utilize Russian assets frozen by the G-7 countries.
