Japan's Unemployment Rate Worsens to 2.7 Pct in July

Tokyo, Aug. 30 (Jiji Press)---Japan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in July rose 0.2 percentage point from the previous month to 2.7 pct, worsening for the first time in five months, the internal affairs ministry said Friday.
The higher jobless rate is believed to have resulted from more people voluntarily leaving their jobs in search of better pay and working conditions.
The number of the unemployed rose 110,000 to 1.87 million, of which the number of those who quit voluntarily increased 70,000. The number of people holding jobs fell 200,000 to 67.66 million.
The unemployment rate is calculated by dividing the number of unemployed people by the number of the labor force.
Japan's seasonally adjusted effective ratio of job openings to seekers in July rose 0.01 point from the previous month to 1.24, up for the first time in four months, a labor ministry report showed.
