(Update) Hiroyuki Sanada Wins Emmy for Lead Actor in "Shogun"

Los Angeles, Sept. 15 (Jiji Press)--Hiroyuki Sanada was named winner of this year's Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for "Shogun," which also claimed three other Emmys at Sunday's ceremony, including one for lead actress Anna Sawai, the organizer of one of the most prestigious U.S. television awards said.
Sanada became the first Japanese to win an Emmy for outstanding lead actor.
The feat came after the drama, set in feudal Japan, won a record-breaking 14 Emmys at the Creative Arts ceremony on Sept. 8.
At Sunday's 76th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, Shogun also won the Emmy for outstanding drama series and its director, Frederick E.O. Toye, claimed the Emmy for outstanding directing in a drama series.
In his speech after receiving the outstanding drama award, Sanada, who also produced the series, thanked all those involved in period dramas and said in Japanese, "The passion and dreams I inherited from you have crossed oceans and borders."
