Details Unclear, Hate Posts Remain, Week after China Stabbing

Shenzhen, China, Sept. 25 (Jiji Press)--With Wednesday marking one week since the fatal stabbing of a Japanese schoolboy in China, details of the attack and the motive of the suspect remain unclear while anti-Japanese posts are still seen on local social media.
The 44-year-old male suspect of the attack on the 10-year-old boy on his way to a Japanese school in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, southern China, was captured on the spot. It is unknown whether he was targeting Japanese nationals.
Japan is urging the Chinese government to crack down on hateful rhetoric on social media, as some critics say Beijing's anti-Japanese education may have been behind the stabbing.
"Baseless, malicious and anti-Japanese social media posts are directly linked to the safety of children and are absolutely unacceptable," Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa told her Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, at a meeting in New York on Monday, demanding swift action.
Yoshifumi Tsuge, Japanese state minister for foreign affairs, said in a meeting with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong in Beijing that "anti-Japanese speech on social media is an extremely big issue."
