Ishiba to Name Koizumi as LDP's Election Strategy Chief

Tokyo, Sept. 28 (Jiji Press)--New Liberal Democratic Party President Shigeru Ishiba plans to appoint former Environment Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, 43, as new chairman of the Japanese ruling party's Election Strategy Committee, informed sources said Saturday.
Ishiba, 67, who was elected LDP leader Friday to succeed outgoing Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, also plans to give a key party post to LDP General Council Chairman Hiroshi Moriyama, 79, and a key government or party post to Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi, 63, according to the sources.
After launching the LDP's new leadership team Monday, Ishiba is slated to launch his cabinet Tuesday after being confirmed as prime minister at an extraordinary parliamentary session earlier in the day.
Ishiba has shown his intention to assign the other eight candidates who ran in the LDP presidential election with him to key party executive or ministerial positions. The eight include Koizumi and Hayashi, as well as economic security minister Sanae Takaichi, 63, who was beaten by Ishiba in a runoff vote.
