Japan Industrial Production Down 3.3 Pct in August

Tokyo, Sept. 30 (Jiji Press)--Japan's industrial production in August fell 3.3 pct from the previous month, affected by Typhoon Shanshan, which led many factories to halt their operations, industry ministry data showed Monday.
The seasonally adjusted production index for the manufacturing and mining sectors came to 99.7, against the 2020 base of 100, the ministry said in a preliminary report.
The ministry kept its basic assessment unchanged, saying that industrial production is fluctuating "indecisively."
Production decreased in 12 of the 15 surveyed industries.
The automobile sector dropped 10.6 pct after July's 1.6 pct increase, due to a decline in car production reflecting plant halts caused by the 10th typhoon this year.
