Japan Household Spending Falls 1.9 Pct in Aug.

   Tokyo, Oct. 8 (Jiji Press)--Japanese household spending dropped 1.9 pct in August from a year before after adjustment for inflation due mainly to typhoons and a warning of a powerful earthquake, the internal affairs ministry said Tuesday.
   Spending by households with two or more members averaged 297,487 yen.
   Automobile purchases plunged 73.3 pct as many car dealers temporarily closed due to typhoons.
   Expenditures on domestic package tours slumped 30.1 pct after the Japan Meteorological Agency warned of an increased risk of a powerful earthquake off the country's Pacific coast.
   Spending on overseas package tours also plummeted, falling 69.8 pct.
