Japan Producer Prices Up 2.8 Pct in Sept.

Tokyo, Oct. 10 (Jiji Press)--Producer prices in Japan increased 2.8 pct year on year in September, the Bank of Japan said Thursday.
The producer price index, which measures the cost of goods traded between businesses, stood at 123.1 against the 2020 base of 100, the central bank said in a preliminary report. The index was up for the 43rd month in a row, and the rate of increase grew from 2.6 pct in August.
The faster rise reflected price hikes of agricultural, forestry and fishery products such as polished and unpolished rice.
Of the 515 items surveyed, 380 saw higher prices while 112 posted lower prices.
Agricultural, forestry and fishery goods prices shot up 12.4 pct chiefly due to rice price hikes, and food and beverage prices increased 2.0 pct as producers continued to reflect higher ingredient costs in their prices.
