Ishiba Raps Hegemonic Moves in East, South China Seas

   Vientiane, Oct. 10 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba criticized hegemonic moves in the East and South China seas, apparently with China in mind, at a summit with leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on Thursday.
   The new prime minister emphasized his eagerness to advance cooperation with ASEAN on maritime security.
   Ishiba expressed strong opposition to activities that violate Japan's sovereignty in the East China Sea, as well as the continuation and intensification of provocative military activities there.
   He also voiced serious concern over the continuation and intensification of militarization and coercive activities in the South China Sea.
   Meanwhile, Ishiba noted that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are important for the region and the international community, while indicating that Japan will continue to communicate closely with China at all levels.
