LDP Platform Mentions Future Abolition of Policy Activity Expenses

Tokyo, Oct. 10 (Jiji Press)--Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party on Thursday released its platform for the Oct. 27 general election, pledging to work on political reform, including the possibility of abolishing the controversial policy activity expense system in the future.
The LDP platform also indicates that the party will seek to realize Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's proposals to double subsidies for regional revitalization and create a new government agency for disaster prevention.
The platform has a slogan saying that the LDP will protect Japan and take advantage of economic growth, as well as six pillars, including those vowing that the LDP will abide by rules and that it will protect the people's daily lives. It also includes Ishiba's message that the LDP will definitely change.
To restore the public's trust eroded by a "slush fund" scandal involving LDP factions, the platform emphasizes that the party will work tirelessly on political and party reform with deep remorse and a strong sense of ethics, with its newly established political reform task force leading such efforts.
The LDP platform also includes pledges to work on the establishment of a third-party organization to check so-called policy activity expenses, the introduction of a system to halt subsidies for political parties and the disclosure of how lawmakers use research, public relations and accommodation allowances.
