TSE to Extend Stock Trading Hours by 30 Minutes on Tuesday

Tokyo, Nov. 4 (Jiji Press)--The Tokyo Stock Exchange will expand its stock trading hours by 30 minutes and move the closing time from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., starting Tuesday.
It will be the first extension of the TSE's closing time in 70 years. Its stock trading hours will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for a total of five and a half hours.
The move is designed to make the market more attractive by expanding trading opportunities to attract more investment funds from home and abroad.
"The expanded hours will increase our presence as an exchange and improve market liquidity," a TSE official said.
However, it is uncertain how much the extension will increase trading as trading hours are still longer in major overseas markets.
