Japan Producer Prices Up 3.4 Pct to Hit Fresh High in Oct.

Tokyo, Nov. 13 (Jiji Press)--Japan's producer prices in October increased 3.4 pct from a year before, logging a record high for the second straight month, the Bank of Japan said Wednesday.
The producer price index, which measures the cost of goods traded between businesses, stood at 123.7 against the 2020 base of 100, the central bank said in a preliminary report. The index was up for the 44th consecutive month, and the rate of growth was the fastest since August last year.
The increase reflected a record 26.0-pct jump in the prices of agricultural, forestry and fishery products including polished and unpolished rice. There were also moves to pass on rising materials and labor costs onto prices.
Of the 515 items surveyed, 382 logged higher prices while 107 saw lower prices.
The rise in agricultural, forestry and fishery products prices was also spurred by higher fertilizer prices and transportation costs.
