Japan's Job Availability Ratio Rises to 1.25 in Oct.

Tokyo, Nov. 29 (Jiji Press)--Japan's seasonally adjusted ratio of effective job openings to seekers in October rose 0.01 point from the previous month to 1.25, up for the second successive month, the labor ministry said Friday.
The number of job seekers decreased, chiefly reflecting wage hikes and improved treatment at workplace. The number of job offers increased amid labor shortages.
The ratio represents the number of jobs available to each applicant at Hello Work public job placement centers across the country. In October, the number of effective job seekers fell 0.7 pct to 1.91 million while that of effective job openings grew 0.2 pct to 2.39 million.
By prefecture, the job availability ratio was highest in Fukui, at 1.94, and lowest in Hokkaido and Osaka, at 1.06.
Also on Friday, the internal affairs ministry said that the country's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in October was up 0.1 percentage point month on month at 2.5 pct, the first rise in three months.
