Japan Industrial Output Rises 0.3 Pct in Dec.

Tokyo, Jan. 31 (Jiji Press)--Japan's industrial production in December rose 0.3 pct from the previous month after seasonal adjustment, due to robust output of chemical machinery and semiconductor memory chips, the industry ministry said in a preliminary report Friday.
The production index for the manufacturing and mining sectors was 102.1 against the 2020 base of 100.
The ministry maintained its basic assessment on industrial production, saying that it is fluctuating indecisively.
Production increased in five of the 15 surveyed industries.
Output in the production machinery sector gained 2.9 pct after orders grew for machinery used in the chemical sector and industrial robots. Production in the electronic parts and devices industry rose 2.1 pct on brisk semiconductor memory demand.
