Japan's Producer Prices Climb 4.2 Pct in Jan.

Tokyo, Feb. 13 (Jiji Press)--Japan's producer prices rose at their fastest pace in 19 months in January as companies increasingly passed on higher materials and labor costs to clients, the Bank of Japan said Thursday.
The producer price index, which measures the cost of goods traded between businesses, grew 4.2 pct in January from a year before to 125.3 against the 2020 base of 100, rising for the 47th consecutive month and hitting a record high for the fifth straight month, the central bank said.
Moves by companies to pass on higher materials, labor and logistics costs to clients are spreading, a BOJ official said.
Prices rose for 402 of the 515 items surveyed, and fell for 90.
