Tokyo, March 11 (Jiji Press)--Organizers of the World Exposition in Osaka from next month are tackling the transportation problems presented by the first Expo to be held in a venue completely surrounded by the sea.
The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition expects 28.2 million visitors during the Expo's six-month run from April 13. The association is striving to ensure smooth transportation to and from the venue on an artificial island so as to avoid disturbing the lives of Osaka residents.
Routes to the island, named Yumeshima, which translates as "dream island," are limited.
The main one is Osaka Metro Co.'s Chuo subway line. In January, the company opened Yumeshima Station, connected directly to the Expo venue's east gate.
The association expects daily visitors to peak at 220,000, of whom some 130,000 are forecast to use the subway line.
