Japan to Step Up Fight against Gambling at Online Casinos

Tokyo, March 21 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government Friday adopted measures to step up its fight against illegal gambling at foreign online casinos.
The measures, included in a new basic plan to combat gambling addiction, were devised in response to the spread of such gambling in Japan.
Specifically, the country will strengthen its crackdowns on payment services operators involved in transfers of money used in online casinos. It also plans to use social media to raise public awareness of the illegality of online gambling.
The government reviews the basic plan every three years. This time, it added a dedicated section on illegal gambling at online casinos for the first time.
In the new plan, the government said it will strengthen its crackdowns not only on casino users but also on payment services operators, which could be charged with aiding betting at online casinos, and other businesses such as affiliate marketers that advertise casinos for money.
