JR Hokkaido Applies for Maximum Shinkansen Speed of 320 kph

   Sapporo, May 15 (Jiji Press)--Hokkaido Railway Co., or JR Hokkaido, has asked the transport ministry to approve a plan to raise the maximum speed of its Shinkansen bullet trains on a planned section to 320 kilometers per hour, President Osamu Shimada said Wednesday.
   The Hokkaido Shinkansen Line, which currently connects Shin-Aomori Station in the northeastern Japan city of Aomori and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station in a southern part of Hokkaido, the northernmost prefecture, is set to be extended to Sapporo Station in the prefectural capital in fiscal 2030.
