INTERVIEW: SMFG to Boost Investment in Digitization, Biz Acquisitions

   Tokyo, June 7 (Jiji Press)--Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. <8316> plans to beef up investment in digital infrastructure in Japan and business acquisitions abroad, its president, Jun Ota, has said in a recent interview.
   "We'd be able to spend nearly one trillion yen on growth fields in the four years through fiscal 2022, assuming that we allocate half of our surplus funds for such areas," if stock prices and the Japanese megabank group's earnings remain at current levels during the period, he said.
