Add-On Acceleration Control Key to Preventing Elderly Traffic Accidents

   Tokyo, June 21 (Jiji Press)--In a nationwide push in Japan to prevent traffic accidents involving elderly drivers mistaking the gas pedal for the brake, automakers are finding that the key is to make more add-on vehicle acceleration control devices available.
   The number of new vehicles equipped with acceleration control devices has grown in recent years. According to the transport ministry, the ratio of new cars equipped with the devices rose to 65.2 pct in 2017 from 35.9 pct in 2015 and 47.1 pct in 2016.
