3 Fraudulent Withdrawals via Merpay Confirmed

   Tokyo, Sept. 16 (Jiji Press)--Merpay Co. said Wednesday that a total of 498,113 yen was confirmed to have been stolen in three cases of fraudulent withdrawals from Japan Post Bank <7182> accounts via its smartphone-based payment service.
   Money was apparently withdrawn from bank accounts that were registered to the Merpay payment service by third parties using stolen passwords, similar to what happened at NTT Docomo Inc.'s <9437> "Docomo Koza," which is at the center of recent hacks that have led to theft from banks.
