FOCUS: 20 Years On, Japan Online Banks Face Fierce Competition

   Tokyo, Oct. 13 (Jiji Press)--Since the birth of Japan Net Bank, the first internet-only bank in the country, 20 years ago, Japanese online banks have had their ups and downs in line with rapid changes involving the financial industry, such as deregulation and digitalization.
   There are currently nearly 10 internet-only banks in Japan as they gradually penetrated into the market over the years by taking advantage of their low cost stemming from not owning branches.
