Toshiba Develops Lithium-Ion Battery Usable in Freezing Cold

   Tokyo, Nov. 19 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Toshiba Corp. <6502> said Thursday it has become the world's first to develop a next-generation aqueous lithium-ion battery that can charge and discharge at subzero temperatures.
   The new battery uses an incombustible aqueous electrolyte solvent, replacing combustible solvents used in conventional lithium-ion batteries. As a result, the risk of fire accidents decreases.
