Japanese Interbank System to Be Opened to Smartphone Payments

   Tokyo, Jan. 14 (Jiji Press)--A Japanese interbank system will be opened to smartphone-based payment services as early as fiscal 2022, the Japanese Bankers Association and others said Thursday, possibly leading to lower fees for users.
   Smartphone payment service operators will be given access to the Zengin Data Telecommunication System, which is currently open only to deposit-taking financial institutions.
