Nippon Steel May Halt Blast Furnace in Eastern Japan

   Tokyo, Feb. 19 (Jiji Press)--Nippon Steel Corp. <5401> is considering halting one of the two blast furnaces in the city of Kashima, Ibaraki Prefecture, eastern Japan, within a few years amid bleak prospects for a recovery in domestic steel demand, it was learned Friday.
   The major Japanese steelmaker aims to improve its profitability by raising the capacity utilization rate.
