Japan Dept. Stores Accelerating Digital Push for Survival
Tokyo, April 4 (Jiji Press)--Department store operators in Japan are speeding up their efforts to digitalize sales operations and other services, with the novel coronavirus epidemic dealing an additional blow to their businesses already suffering in a shrinking market.
Compared with peak levels, sales at department stores have fallen by half. A number of department stores have closed down in recent years, with young people becoming less interested in shopping at department stores and online shopping gaining wide popularity.
