(Update) JR East Suffers 1st Annual Net Loss amid Pandemic

   Tokyo, April 28 (Jiji Press)--East Japan Railway Co. <9020>, or JR East, said Wednesday it suffered annual net loss for the first time since it came into being more than three decades ago.
   Hit by a sharp decline in the number of passengers amid the coronavirus crisis, the railroad operator, created through the 1987 breakup and privatization of the Japanese National Railways, logged a group net loss of 577,900 million yen for the year that ended in March, against the previous year's profit of 198,428 million yen.
