Nikon to End Camera Production in Japan amid Rise of Smartphones

   Tokyo, June 8 (Jiji Press)--Nikon Corp. <7731> is slated to end production of digital single-lens reflex cameras in Japan by the end of next March, as the digital camera market is shrinking amid the rise of smartphones, it has been learned.
   The company's domestic camera production has over 70 years of history. Operations at its last-remaining domestic camera factory, in the northwestern prefecture of Miyagi, will be transferred to Thailand.
