MANILA, Philippines — The easing of the inflation rate to 1.4 percent in April from 1.8 percent in March is proof of the government’s continuous efforts to strengthen the country’s economy, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said on Tuesday.

“The drop in the inflation rate proves President [Ferdinand] Marcos Jr. and his administration are continuously working to strengthen our economy. Let’s watch this,” Castro said in Filipino in a Palace press briefing.

The average inflation rate from January to April was 2.0 percent, which was within the government’s target of 2.0 to 4.0 percent.

A major driver for the drop was food inflation, which fell to 0.7 percent in April from 2.3 percent in March. /gsg
