The two parties reinforce cooperation through concrete action, forging closer ties in the fight against transnational crime

The Japanese Ambassador to Thailand, Otaka Masato, and a delegation of Japanese police officials visited the Royal Thai Police Headquarters on Monday to express their gratitude for the successful arrest of a Japanese fugitive and the rescue of Japanese nationals victimised by a call centre gang operating in Myawaddy, Myanmar.

Police General Thatchai Pitanilabutr, Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police, welcomed the delegation, which included senior representatives from the Japanese National Police Agency and the Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters.

The meeting served as an opportunity for the Japanese officials to commend the Thai police for their swift and effective action in apprehending Yamaguchi, who was wanted in Japan, and for their efforts in rescuing the Japanese victims from the call centre scam.

Discussions also focused on a forthcoming meeting, to be hosted by the Japanese Embassy in late April, aimed at strengthening international cooperation in combating call centre fraud.

In recognition of their dedication and professionalism, the Japanese Embassy presented certificates of appreciation to Police General Thatchai and 27 Thai police officers who played key roles in the operation.

Police General Thatchai reiterated the Royal Thai Police's commitment to collaborating with international partners in the fight against transnational crime, particularly call centre fraud and human trafficking. He emphasised Thailand's determination to share intelligence and work closely with other nations to dismantle these criminal networks.
