A late-night accident on Rama II Road left one person injured when a crane toppled onto a pickup truck in Samut Sakhon province.

A 36-year-old man was injured when a six-wheeled crane fell onto his pickup truck on Rama II Road in Muang district, Samut Sakhon province, at around 2:28 AM on Thursday (April 4).

Police officials quickly responded to the scene, located near a railway crossing bridge in front of the Central Mahachai shopping mall, and closed off traffic in the parallel lanes.

Witnesses said the large crane, which was parked on an under-construction elevated expressway, slipped and fell onto the passing pickup truck below, injuring the driver. He was rushed to Ekachai Hospital.

Traffic in the affected area has since been restored to normal as of the time of this report.

Police stated that the crane driver and other involved parties will be summoned for questioning at the Samut Sakhon police station. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and will take appropriate legal action, while also providing compensation to those affected by the incident.

Rama II Road, often called "The Road with Never-Ending Construction," has seen frequent accidents throughout its decades-long construction, attributed to the 50-year timeline of projects.

As a vital route to southern Thailand, it remains the site of numerous large-scale projects aimed at reducing severe traffic congestion.
