Japan's Foreign Ministry Makes 1st-Ever Explanations to Delegates from Other Countries about Ways to Handle Treated Tainted Water from TEPCO's Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant
The 9.0-magnitude earthquake and subsequent monster tsunami waves on March 11 2011 severely damaged Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant. A breakdown of cooling systems left nuclear reactors overheating, resulting in core meltdowns. The accident and suspension of other plants in the quake-hit areas have caused serious power supply shortages in various parts of eastern Japan including Tokyo.
