Man Arrested for Murder of Female University Student
Tokyo, Feb. 10 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo police on Sunday served a fresh arrest warrant on a man held for allegedly abandoning the body of a woman on suspicion of murdering her.
The 35-year-old suspect, Koichi Hirose, has admitted the charges, saying in questioning by the Metropolitan Police Department that it is true that he killed the woman, Natsumi Kikuchi, a first-year student at Nihon Pharmaceutical University. But he has refused to speak about the reason why he killed her.
In late January, the body of Kikuchi, who lived in Katsushika Ward in Tokyo, was found buried underground in a crop field in the city of Kamisu, Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of the Japanese capital, and Hirose was arrested by the MPD for the body abandoning charges.
Kikuchi went missing in November last year. She was 18 at the time.
Hirose told the police that he killed Kikuchi in a car, saying that he covered the woman's mouth and nose as she started crying when he tried to cover the mouth of the victim, who was in the passenger's seat. Hirose allegedly choked the woman to death on a farm road in Kamisu around Nov. 20.
