Japan Dept. Store Firms Report Sharp Sales Falls in March-Aug.
Tokyo, Oct. 16 (Jiji Press)--Four major Japanese department store operators logged 30-50 pct year-on-year sales drops for March-August due to temporary store closures amid the novel coronavirus epidemic, according to their earnings reports released by Thursday.
Three of the four firms fell deep into the red in their operating balances in the first half of fiscal 2020, while J. Front Retailing Co. <3086>, which runs Daimaru and Matsuzakaya stores, reported an operating profit of 200 million yen.
