Nikkei Retakes 28,000 on Strong Earnings, Tech Buying
Tokyo, Aug. 5 (Jiji Press)--Backed by strong earnings reports and the popularity of technologies, the benchmark Nikkei stock average rose for the third straight session Friday to top 28,000 for the first time in about two months.
The Nikkei average of 225 selected issues listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Prime section advanced 243.67 points, or 0.87 pct, to finish at 28,175.87, after scaling 190.30 points Thursday. The index closed above the psychologically significant threshold for the first time since June 9.
