Japan Core Machinery Orders Fall 0.7 Pct in Sept.

   Tokyo, Nov. 18 (Jiji Press)--Japan's seasonally adjusted core machinery orders in September fell 0.7 pct from the previous month, down for the third straight month, the Cabinet Office said Monday.
   Private-sector orders excluding those for ships and power equipment, closely watched as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending, totaled 852 billion yen.
   The result was far weaker than the median forecast of a 2.1 pct rise in a Jiji Press survey of 17 economic research institutes.
   The Cabinet Office kept its basic assessment unchanged, saying that the pickup in machinery orders is at a standstill.
   Machinery orders from manufacturers edged down 0.01 pct to 388.3 billion yen, while core orders from nonmanufacturers rose 1.5 pct to 453.7 billion yen.
