Japan's Industrial Output Falls 1.1 Pct in March
Tokyo, April 30 (Jiji Press)--Japan's industrial production in March fell back, by 1.1 pct, month on month following a 2.3 pct increase in February, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said in a preliminary report Wednesday.
The seasonally adjusted production index for the manufacturing and mining sectors stood at 101.1 against the 2020 base of 100.
The index's first fall in two months reflected a drop in production at the automobile industry blamed on slower passenger car exports and disruptions in auto parts supplies, according to the data.
Industrial production is repeating ups and downs, the ministry said.
Production rose in five of the 15 sectors. Of them, the production machinery sector enjoyed a 6.9 pct increase thanks partly to brisk production of chipmaking equipment for shipments to China, Taiwan and South Korea.
