Tokyo's Inflation Slows to 3.1 Pct in June

   Tokyo, June 27 (Jiji Press)--Core inflation in central Tokyo cooled to 3.1 pct in June from 3.6 pct in May, the first slowdown in four months, as price pressures on energy eased thanks to lower commodity costs, the Japanese internal affairs ministry said Friday.
   The core consumer price index, which excludes volatile fresh food prices, in the Japanese capital's densely populated 23 wards stood at 110.3 against the 2020 base of 100, rising for the 46th consecutive month.
   Energy prices grew 3.6 pct in June from a year before, after an 8.7 pct gain in May.
   Electricity bills climbed 5.3 pct, slower than a 10.8 pct increase in the previous month. City gas bills rose 2.7 pct after a 6.6 pct rise. Gasoline prices dropped 1.0 pct.
   Water bills plummeted 34.6 pct as the metropolitan government waives basic water supply charges for households during the summer.
