Japan's Industrial Output Rises 0.5 Pct in May
Tokyo, June 30 (Jiji Press)--Japan's industrial production in May gained 0.5 pct from April, marking the first increase in two months, the industry ministry said in a preliminary report Monday.
The seasonally adjusted production index for the manufacturing and mining sectors stood at 101.8 against the 2020 base of 100. The index's rise reflected increased demand for mold components related to car model changes.
The ministry maintained its basic assessment on industrial production, saying that it "fluctuates indecisively."
Production increased in nine of the 15 surveyed sectors, including the production machinery and automobile sectors.
Of the five sectors that posted month-on-month declines, the transport machinery sector, excluding automobiles, logged a significant drop due to sluggish orders for aircraft parts.
